Dr Anette Magnus (PsychD, HCPC-reg.)

About me

My name is Dr Anette Magnus, and I am an HCPC-registered Counselling Psychologist in private practice. I have extensive training working with a wide range of presenting issues in a variety of settings, including NHS secondary care, mental health charities and services specialising in gambling addiction and sexual health.

Training & Qualifications
  • Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (PsychD)

  • Psychology & Counselling (BSc)

My professional training is integrative, meaning I have trained in multiple therapeutic approaches, including:

  • Person-centred therapy

  • Psychodynamic therapy

  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

In addition to my doctoral training, I have also completed all three parts of training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy accredited by EMDR Europe.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist, hold Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and membership with the EMDR Association UK.

Areas of specialty

While I work with a wide range of presenting difficulties, some areas have emerged frequently in my therapy room over the years and have become my areas of specialty and special interest:

  • Anxiety, including generalised anxiety without a clear cause as well as social anxiety and catastrophising.

  • Stress and burnout, particularly work-related stress.

  • Relationship difficulties, including relationship doubts, communication issues, fear of commitment or abandonment, and difficult endings (breakups and divorce).

  • Family issues, including family relationships and dealing with emotionally immature parents.

  • Difficult life experiences, including trauma.

  • Feeling "stuck" in life, navigating uncertainty, facing the unknown or life transitions.

How I work

When it comes to therapy, my approach is that there is no "one size fits all". Clients have different needs at different times, and I therefore see therapy as a collaborative process between therapist and client. As an integrative practitioner, I'll draw on different therapeutic approaches in order to tailor therapy to suit my client's aims and preferences for therapy.

Therapy is an investment in yourself, and I believe this investment deserves an approach that successfully makes use of clinical expertise while being informed by every client's unique context, presenting difficulties and individual preferences.
